Julian Gonzalez Rubio - research associate

I’m originally from Madrid, where I completed a BSc in Biotechnology and began immersing myself in the tissue engineering field during my time at the CSIC Institute of Polymer Science and Technology. I then moved to Germany, where I lived for seven years. First, I completed an MSc in Molecular and Developmental Stem Cell Biology at Ruhr University Bochum, focusing on stem cell differentiation and 3D bioprinting. Afterwards, I pursued my PhD at RWTH Aachen University (BioTex Department, Institute of Applied Medical Engineering) with Dr. Lena Thiebes. My doctoral thesis focused on modelling respiratory diseases and on endothelial–stromal interactions in blood-vessel formation using organ-on-a-chip platforms.

I’m now a postdoctoral researcher co-supervised by Prof. Sanjay Sinha and Prof. Madeline Lancaster (MRC-LMB), working on the vascularisation of brain and cardiac organoids.

Outside the lab, I enjoy films, books, and video games. I also love spending time with my girlfriend and my friends exploring Cambridge.
