John Louca, Clinical Research student

I read Medicine at Caius College Cambridge. I am a resident doctor with an interest in donation after circulatory determination of death (DCD) heart transplantation and ex situ heart perfusion. I have worked with the team at the Royal Papworth Hospital for the last 5 years under Mr Stephen Large and under Prof Sinha for the last 2 years. The aim of my PhD is to prolong the duration of ex situ heart perfusion so that explanted recipient hearts can be used as effective models for testing novel therapeutics. We are also building an international DCD heart transplant database, for use by the international community to better understand the factors which influence success in heart transplantation.

Outside of work I am a keen runner and enjoy cooking.
