Emma Richert, MPhil student

Emma studied medicine in Germany, completing her medical thesis in cardiac tissue engineering, developing fibre-based scaffolds from biogenic and abiogenic polymers for application in congenital cardiac surgery. Now moving on to the “cell side,” her MPhil project will focus on how endocardial–cardiomyocyte communication can drive vascularisation in engineered cardiac patches. Outside the lab, she enjoys playing chamber music on the violin, reading, and road cycling — still undecided whether Bavarian climbs or UK headwinds (and rain) are the greater challenge.
